Changelog ops: what users actually need to read
What’s New is a release surface. Users scan it, Review reads it, and support links to it. Treat it like code.
One action this week: Rewrite your last What’s New entry with: user-facing summary, one bug/fix line, and a max length of 4 short bullets.
Template
• [New] One sentence a user understands. • [Fixed] One concrete bug a user reported. • [Improved] One measurable change (startup, size, etc). • Note: any breaking change or required action.
Failure modes
- Marketing fluff that explains nothing
- False claims that mismatch screenshots
- No mention of a removed feature users will miss
Bottom line
What’s New is not an ad. It is a contract between you and the current user.
